Gebel Kamil Meteorite

Gebel Kamil meteorites are a type of nickel-rich iron meteorite which were first discovered in the year 2009, when scientists were searching for ancient Egyptian settlements. Instead of an ancient settlement, scientists stumbled across something special-- a new meteorite crater!
Discovered near Al Wadi al Jadid, Egypt, this meteorite finds is estimated to be around 5000 years old and is known to display a “Lizard-Skin” texture which is unique to the Gebel Kamil Meteorite. This meteorite is classified as “ungrouped” which means that this currently does not fit into an existing classification for meteorites.
As this meteorite is composed mostly of iron, care must be taken to prevent rusting.  Direct exposure to water is not recommended.
