It is closely related to Pearls, however Pearls are formed when an irritant enters a mollusks shell and is trapped inside. To protect against irritation, the foreign substance is coated with nacre and a Pearl is formed. Mother of Pearl is often used in jewellery or beads, due to its unique beauty.
