Pink jade is a member of the jade family of stones, and ranges in colour from white with pink swirlsand inclusions, to pale pink, to a very bright magenta pink. While very similar in appearance to pink tourmaline, these stones are often more opaque, while tourmaline will be more clear. The most prized pink jades have a consistent bright colour and a nice polish.

Many tombs of ancient Egypt contain jade amulets. It is said that ancient Mezoamericans, such as the Aztecs, Mayans, and Olmecs, cherished jade more than gold. They used it for medicinal purposes, and often carved it into religious totems and works of art, along with jewellery and other ornaments.
