Agate is a relatively common stone that may be found around the world.  Agate is a member of the chalcedony/ quartz family of stones.  Agate comes in hundreds of different varieties and colours.

Agates are believed to have been formed millions of years ago during volcanic eruptions.  The volcanic lava flows left cavities filled with gas.  As the flows cooled, these cavities allowed for mineral bearing solutions to enter and the combinations of these solutions along with heat, pressure and millions of years allowed the agate to form.

Moss Agate contains sets of mineral inclusions that imitate the looks of trees, plants and landscapes. Some moss agate inclusions are composed of manganese and iron oxide and are one of the most unique agates available. It is described as a neutral and transparent dendritic agate. Most of the time this gemstone is found with a lime color. Rarely it can be found with red and brown patterns due to the corrosion of the iron within the chlorite and hornblende.

Moss agate is a stone of new beginnings, and is useful for farmers and midwives. It is also believed to bring wealth, relieve stress, and aid in physical activity.
